Strongbuild is well known as one of the market leaders when it comes to all things timber construction and having completed a number of mass timber structures including the award winning CLT and Glulam structure at Macquarie University’s Incubator, it was time we ‘Lived the Talk’.

Our brand new, fully exposed CLT & Glulam mass timber head office was completed last week with our teams moving in just after the Melbourne Cup.

There are some great studies that show that people working within timber environments have lower heart rates, are less stressed and actually see an improvement in productivity, so we wanted to see it for ourselves. The feedback from all of our staff has been exceptional.

The unique design and vision was provided by well-respected Architect James Fitzpatrick and was delivered by many at Strongbuild. The building is a true reflection of total collaboration between all of our divisions including our design and detailing team, our manufacturing and joinery crew as well as our install and site teams. There are so many great things about the building that no single individual can be pointed out in terms of their contribution, everyone should be proud of what has been achieved.

The mass timber structure was erected in only 6 days and consists of 110m3 of CLT, 40m3 of Glulam and 615m2 of visual grade 3ply all imported from Austria through our partner Binderholz. All the panels, joints, penetrations and connections were fully detailed and processed in-house.

Tasmanian Blackwood feature batons, matt black lighting, fire sprinklers and a/c duct sox have been used to really accentuate the stunning timber finish.

The feature stairs incorporate CLT treads with Tasmanian Blackwood hangers and nosing, with Glulam blocks all completely designed and manufactured in house along with the kitchen and workstations with Tasmanian Blackwood veneer and black CLT leg supports.

The double glazed low-E clear toughened glass was modelled and shop drawn with every panel detailed ready for manufacture. Our drawings were used to cut the glass to size and pre-ordered before construction began.

The office now stands as a brilliant showpiece we can all be proud of.
